Why night products are formulated differently

Most skincare lines separate day and night formulas for a reason that has less to do with marketing than with what skin is actually doing at each point in a twenty four hour cycle. Daytime formulas tend to prioritize protection, sunscreen, antioxidants meant to counter environmental exposure, and lighter textures that sit well under makeup. What a consistent nighttime routine actually does

A nighttime skincare routine works partly because of what is in the products and partly because it gives skin a clean, hydrated starting point right before the hours when it is doing the most repair work on its own. Washing away the day’s buildup, whether that is sunscreen, light makeup, or just accumulated oil and pollution, means the skin barrier is not spending part of the night working around residue that a day’s worth of exposure left behind. Applying a moisturizer before bed also gives the skin a head start against the overnight increase in water loss described above, rather than trying to catch up after the fact in the morning.
